Regional, National, and World Jamborees, Camps and Activities |
Canadian Jamborees are held every four years, rotating through various sites in western, central, and eastern Canada. The latest official information on this summer's upcoming camp is on the official CJ'01 pages on the national web site. 130 Whitby Scouts and Scouters attended the last national jamboree, CJ'97 in Thunder Bay, Ontario.
World Jamborees are held every four years in various countries around the world. The next one will be held from December 28, 2002 to January 8, 2003 in Thailand (summer in the southern hemisphere). For more information, see the 20th World Scout Jamboree web site. Eligible youth are those who were born between December 29, 1984 and December 28, 1988.
Six Whitby Area Scouts and leaders attended the World Jamboree in
Chile in January 1999. In April of that year,
Scouts
from the local Canadian contingent and Scouts from Uruguay each participated
in conservation projects in their respective countries, as part of a
twinning
opportunity between the two patrols.
The Jamboree on the Trail was conceived in 1997 by a scouter in St. Catharines, Ontario, and was spread to several countries of the Scouting world. The third annual JOTT was held on May 13, 2000. This great international activity is good for Beaver-age on up, and you don't necessarily have to go far away - local trails are just as good!
The Jamboree on the Air and now World Jamboree on the Internet are held each year on the 3rd full weekend of October. For many years in Whitby Area, we have scheduled a camp on this weekend for Scouts and Venturers. For 2000, the Scouts and Venturers headed to a new venue, the Cobourg Scout camp, where they had use of a ham radio and participated in many fun and challenging activities.
