1st Whitby Venturers Challenge: the Best Fries in TownThe Venturers from 1st Whitby visited 6 restaurants in Whitby, challenging for the best french fries. Ratings included crispness, doneness, size, speed of delivery, grease value and temperature. A letter was sent in advance to the target venues requesting a donation of 1 or 2 orders of fries. Certificates of Participation were presented at each visit. Despite the generosity of the restaurants, quality was evident and easily decided. Wendy's took first place. Thanks to McDonalds, New York Fries, Star Burger, Harvey's and KFC. Where will the next challenge take them? Check out their website at www.1st.whitbyscouts.org Food Drive Runs Again, Throughout FebruaryI know we can get to 2 pounds per person, with a little extra work. Encourage your youth to bring a food item to the weekly meetings, Scout banquet and Group Committee meeting. Food can be donated to the food bank of your choice but weigh your collections and report them to . A central drop off point will also be arranged. Kub Kars, Off to the Races!Kub Kars provides excellent entertainment and we are grateful to have facilities donated again by the Town of Whitby at the vacant unit upstairs between Pads 5 and 6 at the Iroquois Park Arena. Races will run most weeknights during the month of February from 6 pm till 8 pm. Come out and watch or come help the committee, just for fun! Scout Guide Week: ProclamationIt is official! Mayor Marcel Brunelle has issued a proclamation that the week of February 18-24, 2002, is declared Scout/Guide Week for Whitby. Official documentation has been printed and will be presented in the Whitby Mall in our Scout-Guide week display to be set up in the vacant Yogen-Fruz shop. If you have anything that you'd like to share with the viewing public, the display will be under lock and key, behind glass. For those who'd like to help man the display, there is a place there for you as well. Contact Tim Pollock, Growth and Membership Coordinator at . Membership Continues to GrowEarlier this month a flyer designed to attract new members into the Brooklin, Ashburn and Myrtle areas was distributed free thanks to the Optimist Club of Brooklin who sent out 3,400 newsletters. At last count there were 12 inquiries from the flyer. We usually get a good response from newspaper stories, however these are difficult to facilitate if information isn't passed on. If your section or group engages in something of interest to the general public, contact Melodie Scott at . Everyone Welcome to Annual Gilwell DanceMarch 2nd marks the greatest adult event of the year, the annual Gilwell Dance at Whitby Legion, Byron St. S. Whitby.
