World Jamboree Draws Full Patrol From Whitby DistrictEight Whitby Scouts and Venturers and one Leader will travel to Bangkok, Thailand next December to take in 3 weeks of world jamboree activities and cultural exploration. At last check, our young representatives will make up 1/10th of the total youth members who will form the Canadian Contingent. Each is involved in raising the $3,750 fee to attend the event that only occurs once every 4 years. District Council will assist in funding 1/3 of the cost for 7 Whitby youth members from funds reserved specifically for this purpose. Food Drive Runs on Target to Beat Last Year's TotalWith a little hard work we can achieve our goal of 1 kg of food per person to beat other neighbouring districts that are competing in this Regional event. Your section or group can donate the food to any food bank you wish, but PLEASE weigh how much you collect so we can report this to the regional co-ordinator. Kub Kars Off and RunningKub Kar racing provides excellent entertainment and we are grateful to have facilities donated again by the Town of Whitby at the vacant unit upstairs between Pads 5 and 6 at the Iroquois Park Arena. Races will run most weeknights during the month of February from 6 pm - 8 pm. Come out and watch or come help the committee, just for fun! Scout-Guide Week Challenge Tough to BeatSo what is happening with the Scout Guide Week Challenge? Does anyone have plans? Pass the information on so we can promote your project and get some press coverage. Contact Melodie Scott to arrange for press coverage at . District By-Laws Review UnderwayVOLUNTEERS NEEDED! It has come to our attention that it is time to review and update the District By-Laws adopted by the council Nov 16, 2000. So far comments have come in from members of the management committee but we need some outside perspectives. If you have time to review the current by-laws and add your comments, email Brian Wick for a copy. We appreciate your help. Gilwell Dance CancelledThe Gilwell Dance at Whitby Legion, scheduled for March, has been cancelled due to the national alcohol policy. If you have questions, speak to John Wyld 905-668-0193. Adult Volunteer Development (previously Wood Badge)The course for Beaver, Cub & Scout leaders has been rescheduled to March 22-24. If that isn't the best time for you, Trish Lewis, ADC Training, can steer you to many courses held in the area. Email Trish at or check out the schedule on the website: http://www.whitbyscouts.org/training.html. Austin Catholic School Volunteers Help SectionsSix students from Austin Catholic School are being integrated into 6 sections as junior leaders. All of these young volunteers are working on completing their 50 hours of community service required to graduate. Other sections make excellent use of high school students as Scouters-in-Training and Junior Activity Leaders. These young people have lots of energy and ideas to make the program execution easy for the Contact Leaders. Find your resources and make use of them!
